MSU picks up first 2013 verbal commit
It may be Super Bowl Sunday, but for Michigan State fans, this already has been an outstanding day.
As if the men winning against Michigan this afternoon was not enough, the women topped Michigan in Ann Arbor immediately after in a 65-63 win.
Now, the Spartans picked up their first verbal commitment for the football recruiting class of 2013.
Running back Gerald Holmes of Flint Carman-Ainsworth decided to start the class off with a bang.
Holmes chose MSU over an offer from Central Michigan. An injury in his junior year kept him a little bit under the radar, and he likely will pick up a lot more interest during his senior season.
“It means a lot that they wanted me and offered me even though I had my injury,” Holmes said to 247sports.com.
Holmes is a bigger back, listed at 6-foot, 205 lbs by Rivals. He runs hard, and looks for contact, often getting through tackles.

Rivals.com has not released its rankings for the class of 2013 yet, but is scheduled to announce its Top 100 and Top 250 players this week. Signing Day for the 2012 class was Wednesday.
