Spartans Snapshots (March 5 edition)

Three Spartans in top 25 postseason players on Big Ten Blog

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg and Brian Bennett have been slowly putting out their top 25 players of the 2011 Big Ten football season, and no surprise, the Spartans are well represented.

First in was B.J. Cunningham at No. 14.

Here is what Bennett had to say: “Cunningham made the leap from good to great in 2011. A productive receiver from the time he started playing as a freshman in 2008, Cunningham more than doubled his previous career high for receiving yards in a season and blossomed into a true, No. 1 wideout.”

Kirk Cousins broke the top 10 at the ninth spot.

Bennett: “Cousins led the Big Ten in passing yards and finished his career as the Spartans’ all-time leader in passing touchdowns, passing yards, completions, passing efficiency rating and total offense. And you can’t underestimate the leadership he brought to the team as the face of the program, a big key in Michigan State’s 11-win campaign. There’s not much more you could have asked from Kirk Cousins in 2011.”

Finally, Jerel Worthy checked in at No. 7.

Rittenberg: “Worthy entered the season with a lot of NFL draft hype, and backed it up with his play, solidifying the interior of the Big Ten’s top-rated defense (No. 6 nationally). Like many standout defensive tackles, Worthy made an impact on games that went far beyond the numbers. He topped every opponent’s scouting report, and regularly commanded the attention of multiple offensive linemen”
