MSU recruit Jamal Lyles receives fourth star
Rivals.com has moved MSU commitment Jamal Lyles from a three-star recruit to a four-star today as part of its new rankings.
Lyles, from Southfield Lathrup, is rated as the 19th weakside defensive end in the 2012 class.
He has been rated a four-star recruit as an outside linebacker by Scout.com, one of three four-star recruits for Michigan State.
Rivals.com Midwest analyst Josh Helmholdt broke down the reason for Lyles’ jump.
“Jamal Lyles is a prospect I have been impressed with since I saw him for the first time last spring playing wide receiver,” Helmholdt said. “Even then, though, I thought this kid could be a big-time rush end with his length and athleticism. He is now 6-foot-4, 230 pounds and I have been told doctors feel he is not done growing yet. His frame easily has room for another 20 pounds, and Michigan State coaches have started talking some defensive end as well if he continues growing. Lyles has all the tools to be a terror coming off the edge in the Big Ten.”
Earlier this week, another MSU commitment Aaron Burbridge (Farmington Hills Harrison) moved into the Rivals 100, now the 100th-ranked recruit in the nation. He moved up from the 149th spot. The speedy, playmaking wide receiver also is a four-star recruit.
